Tips and FAQ

Common questions and tips for your travel

Cash and Credit Cards

Carry cash. Most of the places don’t accept credit or debit cards. Don’t use the ATM’s at the beach side. Go to Chedraui Supermarket to use their cash machines they give fair rates.

Eco-Friendly Sunscreen

Bring or buy eco-friendly sunblock and bug spray to protect the delicate ecosystems of the jungle and Cenotes. Please do not use them before getting to the Cenotes.

Street / Beach Lighting

If you plan on walking or biking at night, bring a flashlight or make sure your flashlight app is installed and working. It's dark out there in the jungle.

Internet

Please note most of Tulum is off the grid and powered by wind, solar and a generator as backup. It should be expected that internet and power can be spotty.

Cell Phone Reception

Arrange with your cell phone carrier and get international plan or turn off cellular, data roaming, and push notifications to avoid high charges. We suggest using the app, WhatsApp, it is a great way to communicate in Mexico because the reception at the beach is spotty.

Travel Safety

Tulum is generally safe but we suggest you always keep your items secure and never left in vehicles. If going out at night, stay in groups in more lit areas.
